Walsh Nets 1st of the Season Despite Loss to Johnson State

BROOKLINE, MA -- Senior Shannon Walsh (Massapequa, NY/ Massapequa) netted her first goal of the season but the Newbury Nighthawks fell to the visiting Badgers of Jonhson State, 4-1, Sunday afternoon at JCH Field at Hellenic College. With the goal, Walsh now has 38 for her career, just two shy of tying Briana Tomaselli's career tally of 40.  The defeat drops the Nighthawks to 0-4 on the season while the Badgers improve to 3-1. 

Kylie Aither powered the Badgers to victory on the afternoon, collecting four goals in the match.  The senior slotted home in the 2nd, 37th, 61st and 71st minutes while leading the visitors nine shots, six of which were on frame.

Noelle Sass (Randolph, MA/ Fontbonne Academy) made 12 saves in net for the Nighthawks while Johnson States Keila Leemer made four saves in 78 minutes of action.  Mia Blackwell closed out the game in net for the Badgers, making one save.

Johnson State, who is coached by former Newbury men's soccer coach, Andrew Lafrenz, outshot the Nighthawks 23 to 13 on the afternoon.

The Nighthawks will return to the pitch this Thursday, September 14th when they host Framingham State University at Hellenic College. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 PM and can't be seen on live streem on www.newburynighthawks.com.
