Sanders Career-High 24 Points Yields NECC, NEWBA Rookie of the Week Honors

ATTLEBORO (NECC) SPRINGFIELD (NEWBA), Mass. - For the third time in six weeks, Nighthawks freshman Jaymesha Sanders (West Haven, Conn.) has been named the New England Collegiate Conference and New England Women's Basketball Association Rookie of the Week, as announced by the NECC & NEWBA Offices on Monday. Due to the Winter Break, statistics from Dec. 18 to Jan. 7 counted toward the NECC award while the NEWBA award only counted the past week.

Sanders has started the 2018 schedule with back-to-back double-doubles. On Jan. 3, Sanders scored a career-high 24 points while also grabbing 16 rebounds in a 79-71 comeback victory at Pine Manor. Sanders started the game 6-for-7, scoring 20 points in the first half.

On Jan. 6 vs. Elms, Sanders scored 17 points and added 12 rebounds as the Nighthawks start 4-1 in the NECC with their 79-40 victory. 

In the four games played from Dec. 18 to Jan. 7, Sanders averaged 15 points and nine rebounds. 

Women's Basketball returns to the court this week with a pair of games as they first welcome Connecticut College on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., before traveling to Becker on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. tip against the conference's top team.
