ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Nighthawks freshman Mallory Stefan (Thornton, Colo.) broke out offensively this week, finishing with four games with at least two hits and as a result, has been named the New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week in softball for the week ending on April 10.

In her previous nine games offensively, she only accomplished a two-hit game once and hasn't finished a game with two hits in nearly a month, until this week.

Stefan had a strong week at the plate for the Nighthawks, finishing the week with a .526 batting average. Her offense helped lead Newbury in a 4-0 week against conference opponents. From the plate, Stefan drove in seven runs, while also scoring four runs of her own.

Stefan finished with two hits in four of six games, including a 2-for-3 game against Bay Path University on April 5. In that game, Stefan finished with her first career double and a career-high three RBIs.

The Nighthawks continue a busy week with a trio of conference doubleheaders, starting with a pair at Becker College on April 10, followed by another doubleheader at Lesley University on April 11, before wrapping up the week on April 15 vs. Mitchell College.
