Men’s and women’s cross country started out 2016 strong in their first races of the season at the Wheelock Cross Country Opener. Naomi Ricciotti (Phoenix, Ariz.) ran a 17:03 over the 2.08 mile course, winning first place in the opening race of the year. Fellow teammates Destiny Spears (Annapolis, Md.) and Christina Babcock (Shirley, Mass.) took second and third, respectively.
A trio of Nighthawks; Tim Brown (Orange, Conn.), Chris Beaudoin (Bristol, Conn.) and Joshua Oliver (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) turned in top-30 times in the NECC Championships en route to a sixth place finish at the 8k Run at Stanley Park on Saturday morning.
Senior Tim Brown (Orange, Conn.) completed the Mitchell Invitational course in a time of 19:31.96, leading his team to a second place finish at the Mitchell 5k on Saturday morning.
In the Nighthawks first meet this season at the Wheelock Opener, Newbury runners combined to turn in the top eight overall times (3 women, 5 men). The men's team combined for a time of 1:25:17, beating the second place team, Daniel Webster, by over 19 minutes and averaging a time of nearly four minutes better per runner.
