    Gulls senior Daniel Toth (Glenwood, N.J.) finished with a match-high 10 kills on 14 attempts for a hitting percentage of .643, helping the Endicott Gulls secure a spot in the New England Collegiate Conference Championship by virtue of a 3-0 victory over the Newbury Nighthawks on Thursday evening at MacDonald Gymnasium.
  • No. 5 Nighthawks, No. 1 Gulls; Winner to NECC Title Game

    For the first time since 2015, the Newbury Nighthawks are in the semifinals of the New England Collegiate Conference Tournament by virtue of a 3-0, (25-21, 25-20, 25-19) straight sets, victory over the No. 4 seeded Eastern Nazarene Lions on Tuesday night. Waiting for at the Nighthawks is the top-seed, No. 1 Endicott Gulls, who finished the season undefeated in the NECC at 12-0 and are winners of eight of their last nine in all competitions. The Gulls finished with a pair of 3-0 victories over the Nighthawks this season, accounting for two of the 12 NECC wins for the Gulls.

    Nighthawks junior Joshua Thorne (Oxford, Mass.) finished with a double-double of a match-high 13 kills to go along with 12 digs as the Newbury Nighthawks defeated the Eastern Nazarene Lions 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-19), avenging a pair of 3-2 regular season losses on Tuesday night at Lahue PE Center in the Quarterfinals of the New England Collegiate Conference Playoffs.
  • No. 5 Nighthawks, No. 4 Lions Battle for Spot in NECC Semis

    Following a season at 4-8 in the New England Collegiate Conference, the Nighthawks earned the fifth seed in the NECC Playoffs. The Nighthawks travel to Quincy for a battle with the fourth-seeded Eastern Nazarene Lions on Tuesday night. The Lions, who finished 12-9 (5-7 NECC) in their first season, earned the five seed by virtue of two victories over the Nighthawks this season. On both occasions, the Nighthawks held a lead with a chance to close out matches, but both times, the Lions stormed back for dramatic 3-2 victories.

    The schedule is tightening up for Nighthawks men's volleyball as Newbury prepares for two matches in two days starting Tuesday evening at Pine Manor College. The Gators are 5-5 in their first season in program history, including a three-game winning streak in early February. The Nighthawks broke through for their first victory of March on Saturday morning vs. Dean College. The Nighthawks have a quick turnaround after this match, having to travel to Southern Vermont on Wednesday for conference play.

    Prior to Spring Break was the last time the Nighthawks saw the win column in 2017 but a great chance arises on Saturday morning as they welcome the Dean College Bulldogs to Pappas Gymnasium for a non-conference match. The Nighthawks are 1-0 this season against the Bulldogs, earning a 3-0 win on Feb. 15 at Dean College.

  • Nighthawks Welcome Blazers for Mid-Season Showdown

    A match originally scheduled for Tuesday night was forced to move 48 hours to Thursday night as the Elms College Blazers travel across the state to Brookline to face the Newbury Nighthawks at Pappas Gymnasium. Both teams have been out of competition for 12 days due to Spring Break for both schools. In non-trimatch situations, the Nighthawks come in at 2-2, the Blazers are 6-4 in such situations. Elms has won seven of their last 10 matches overall.
  • Men's Volleyball Drops Both on Tri-Match Saturday

    In the final matches before Spring Break, the Nighthawks walked away Saturday afternoon with a pair of straight set losses to New England Collegiate Conference rival Regis College and to the Mount Ida Mustangs. Regis took home a pair of straight set wins; the Mustangs split the day at 1-1.

    Winners of their last two New England Collegiate Conference games, the Nighthawks travel to the team sitting atop the NECC standings; the 8-8 (3-0 NECC) Endicott Gulls. The Gulls enter winning fourth straight, including three in a row against NECC teams.

  • Home Opener for Men's Volleyball vs. Emerson

    Tuesday night is the home opener for the Nighthawks as they welcome Emerson College to Pappas Gymnasium; the second straight game the Nighthawks have faced the Lions. The Nighthawks are looking for their first win of the season, sitting at 0-2. The Lions started the season 3-0 before dropping the second half of a tri-match at home to MIT. The Lions walked away with a 3-1 win in the first meeting between these teams a week ago.
