Nighthawks Fall on Road to Becker

LEICESTER, Mass. - Becker senior Samuel Durodola (Rosedale, N.Y.) matched a career-high, scoring 35 points to go with 16 rebounds, as the Becker Hawks defeated the Newbury Nighthawks 108-81 in New England Collegiate Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Leicester Gymnasium.

After a slow start, Durodola scored 22 points on 9-of-10 shooting in the second half. Junior Kareem Davis (Lowell, Mass.) finished with 33 points, shooting 50 percent from behind the arc. Junior Jalen Robinson (Queens, N.Y.) scored 10 points and added a career-high 11 assists. Junior Bernard Broaster (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) posted 13 points and a career-high nine rebounds, while freshman guard Jamir Carr (Philadelphia, Penn.) came off the bench to score nine points with five rebounds and two steals in 22 minutes. 

The Nighthawks were led by senior Jeduan Langston (Roxbury, Mass.), who came off the bench to score 16 points with 12 rebounds and three assists. Senior Daivon Edwards (Roxbury, Mass.) finished with 15 points, while sophomore Wayne Massey (Gwynn Oak, Md.) added 12. Freshman guard Miguel Rivera (Waterbury, Conn. / Crosby) scored eight points and dished out six assists.

After the Nighthawks jumped out to an 8-2 lead, Becker answered by scoring 14 of the game's next 18 points. The Hawks went into halftime leading 50-37.

In the second half, Newbury pulled to within ten with 12:40 to go after a pair of free throws by Langston. Becker exploded for an 18-2 run capped off with a layup from Durodola off a dish from Robinson on the fast-break.

The win moves the Hawks to 12-11 (7-5 NECC) while the loss drops the Nighthawks to 4-18 (2-10 NECC).

The Hawks of Becker will be back on the court on Wednesday when the team travels to Dean College for a 7:00 p.m. game. Meanwhile, the Nighthawks travel to Fisher College for a 7:00 p.m. game on Monday, with tip-off coming at 7:00 p.m.
