    Nighthawks Return With 8-5 Record After Two Saturday Losses The Nighthawks round out their trip to Arizona with a pair of losses in the Tucson Invitational at the Kino Sports Complex. Nighthawks junior Matthew Sobray (Santa Clarita, Calif.) is batting .500 in his first 12 games. Freshman Dante Serino (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) is batting .429 in all the Nighthawks 13 games.

    Winning Streak Ends At Seven Following Loss to Aurora (Ill.) With Nighthawks junior Matt Sobray (Santa Clarita, Calif.) standing on third with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, the North Central (Minn.) Rams catcher overthrew the pitcher, leading to an aware Sobray to take home and beat the throw giving the Nighthawks a 4-3 lead, while a five-run eighth inning for the Nighthawks led to their 9-5 win on Monday evening.

    Nighthawks Start 6-0; Forrest Breaks Program Win Mark A comeback in the opening game of the doubleheader and an offensive explosion in the second game lead to the Nighthawks to two wins over Simpson College of Iowa in the opening games for the Nighthawks at the Kino Sports Complex. The 6-0 start is the best start to the season over a six game stretch in program history; the Nighthawks had a 5-1 start in 2012.

    Nighthawks Sweep Four-Game Set With Pair of 6-5 Sunday Wins For the second straight season the Nighthawks start 4-0 following a pair of wins over the UMaine-Presque Isle Owls on Sunday afternoon, both by a score of 6-5. In the first game, the Nighthawks held on in the late innings to earn the victory, while a comeback was needed to overcome the Owls in the second game.

    Baseball Opens With Four vs. Presque Isle Rarely do you see any baseball season opening in February, especially in the Northeast, but for the first time in the program history, the Nighthawks open their season in February, hosting a four-game set to UMaine Presque Isle. It's the second straight season the Nighthawks welcome the Owls for a four-game set to open the year. Last season, the Nighthawks started 4-0 after sweeping the weekend of games.

    Baseball Polls Sixth in Preseason Voting The Newbury Nighthawks baseball team has been selected to finish sixth according to preseason polling, announced by the New England Collegiate Conference on Tuesday afternoon. Mitchell College was selected to repeat as the NECC Champions finishing the Baseball Preseason Coaches’ Poll with 46 points and four first place nods.
